Why Blog-It?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in most people's minds, seems to be an effort to generate back links. Most completely miss the point that a web site should be developed to create sustainable traffic by posting high quality content that users wish to read.

Who are these folks kidding?

Almost daily we block new users from several spam domains who are trying to post comments (automated) to embed links to what I assume are their clients web sites. The comments generally go along the lines of "Thank you for such wonderful information ..." or something equally inane, and embedded within is a link to a cut-rate mortgage company or report writing service etc.

Let me make myself perfectly clear. We delete these comments as soon as we find them, and block the users who have posted them on EVERY SITE WE HOST!

Cause and Effect

I suspect that all the companies that have somehow blocked WikiLeaks’ flow of funds and information are watching the news, as we all are. I recommend that the companies look at the comments posted by readers. These comments are the vox populi; the sounds all too often ignored.

#WikiLeaks and Freedom of the Press

A few years ago, I wrote an article on freedom of the press. This article was based on a show I watched on CNN, that cause a women to commit suicide. Being human, I was quite harsh with my article against CNN. Now a couple years later I find that I am fascinated by the stories about WikiLeaks, and its effects on the public at large. I find myself unable to be as harsh with WikiLeaks as I was with the CNN story.

As a journalist, I was sometimes given confidential information on the implied promise of anonymity. It was my job to verify the information and decide whether or not to publish it. The whistleblower web site received a copious amount of information and, no doubt verified that it was genuine. It has slowly been releasing portions of it to mass media as well as on its own web site. Some readers have told me that WikiLeaks has gone too far by publishing the diplomatic cables; that it would put people at risk. There has not yet been any evidence to support that.

Everyone seems to be watching and talking about WikiLeaks. Some governments and businesses have taken a position of guilty until proven innocent. One of the most interesting things to come out of the leaks is not the leaks themselves, but the amount of conversation it has started. Whether they are supporters of the site or not, people have been taking an interest in politics, diplomacy and freedom of the press.

Where do you find work today? It is the cry of today's humans at large (I Need Work)…so why don't we create our own work? This question opens up a whole can of worms among the same crying humans!
