Covering the grand opening of a local Farmers' Market in Kingston

As part of my duties as a rural affairs correspondent for BuyFromTheFarm.ca and other publications, I often get invited to all sorts of local events in my hometown of Kingston, Ontario.

This coming Sunday (May 31st, 2009), I will be attending the grand opening of The Community Harvest Market with camera and notepad in hand. The market will be giving out fifty $5.00 coupons to families shopping at the market.

I was told that some MPPs and a few city officials will be in attendance. This looks like a great opportunity for a freelance journalist to rub elbows with the local elite. ;-)

I hope to interview Tara Kainer, executive assistant to the Co-Director of the Justice and Peace Office at Providence Motherhouse and market administrator, as well as Suzanne Belyea.

I have spoken to one of the vendors who told me that he will have honey, asparagus and rhubarb on hand for opening day, and more to come as the season advances.

If you see me at the market, be sure to introduce yourself! Happy market day.
