Everyone seems to be watching and talking about WikiLeaks. Some governments and businesses have taken a position of guilty until proven innocent. One of the most interesting things to come out of the leaks is not the leaks themselves, but the amount of conversation it has started. Whether they are supporters of the site or not, people have been taking an interest in politics, diplomacy and freedom of the press.
In the newest blow to the whistleblower site, PayPal has suspended its service to WikiLeaks. In a statement by on the official PayPal Blog, “December 3, 2010 PayPal has permanently restricted the account used by WikiLeaks due to a violation of the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity. We’ve notified the account holder of this action.” Effectively, by their action PayPal have condemned the site without due process.
More to come.
